Last week when Leicester City sacked boss Nigel Pearson it came as a shock to many, as the Englishman, especially in the second half of last season, had done a fantastic job in keeping Foxes up - winning nine out of his last eleven fixtures while playing some vibrant, attacking football.

Sacking the man that had achieved promotion to the Premier League and then kept Leicester up the following season seemed strange, however it was somewhat inevitable in many ways, as Pearson, perhaps, paid the price of his son, James', sins on an end of season trip to Thailand.

That incident in Asia, along with Nigel Pearson's strange antics at times - he seemed to strangle Crystal Palace's James McArthur, called a reporter a ostrich and had an argument with a fan and refused to apologise for it - strained the relationship between club and manager.

These incidents went against Pearson and he was sacked despite what happened on the pitch, so the search for a new manager has well and truly begun.

The Foxes board have confirmed that they will take their time in appointing a new manager, and some of the main names in the frame at the moment include Guus Hiddink, Neil Lennon and Martin O'Neill.

The last two are of course former Foxes, and may be tempted to a return, but how likely they are to take charge at the moment is unclear.

However another man who is a former Leicester player, and even caretaker manager, has not been linked at all... Chris Powell.

The former left-back is of course managing Huddersfield Town at the moment, but would surely welcome the opportunity to coach at the King Power Stadium next season with what is an improving squad if the second half of the season is anything to go by.

The case for Powell is strong. He has been managing since 2010 when he took one game at Leicester before he went on to take control of Charlton and then The Terriers.

The former Addicks player did a great job at The Valley, getting the club promoted to the Championship before keeping them up and eventually moving up north for a new challenge last season.

Powell has plenty of managerial experience in the Championship and now could be ready for the challenge of the Premier League.

Even though he may seem like slightly a left field choice given some of the names linked, Powell could be an inspired choice, as he would be a popular figure amongst Foxes fans. He was a fan favourite whilst he was at the club and would certainly have the support of the crowd - something that it is important for the success of any manager.

He will have the support and he could well be the man needed to build on what Pearson has started, rather than rip it all up and start again, as the template is there and Powell does look the sort to build on it, whereas Guus Hiddink, for example, would like his own team.

The negative against Powell is that he has not had any managerial experience in the Premier League and there will of course be doubts over how he would handle the challenge.

However we will never know whether Powell is capable or not unless he's given the chance, and maybe the Foxes could be the team to do just that.
