With just a few weeks to go until the end of the season, the race for the Champions League appears to have reached an uneventful climax after what appeared to be a race that would go down to the wire.

While Chelsea run away with the league title, it would take a remarkable turn of fortunes for anyone to prevent Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City from completing next season’s line up for Europe’s premier competition.

Liverpool hold the best chance, but with a seven-point deficit and a far inferior goal difference to their rivals it looks unlikely they will trouble those sides above them.

And with the transfer window on the horizon, it’s an uncertain time for those clubs who could be in danger of losing their star players to those teams in the top four.

The big names all strive to play in the Champions League, and for those teams further down the league table unable to offer them the privilege, they may look for a move sooner rather than later.

Here a five stars who could be on the move this summer in search of Champions League football...

Raheem Sterling

Sterling1

Raheem Sterling’s reluctance to sign a new contract with Liverpool prompted plenty of criticism from those who thought he was only after the money after turning down a reported £100,000 a week.

But putting any discussion of a new deal on hold until the summer could well be down to the club’s battle to secure a top-four spot; one they look increasingly likely to miss out on.

With just two years remaining on his current deal, Sterling has a number of clubs chasing his signature and could well be tempted to move on to bigger things if Liverpool fail to attract sufficient quality to Anfield this summer.

Hugo Lloris

Lloris

Hugo Lloris has enjoyed another terrific season for Tottenham but his heroics have not been enough to help Spurs make a return to the top four.

It’s unlikely a goalkeeper of his quality will be content with the Europa League for much longer, and with some of Europe’s top clubs sniffing about Spurs may struggle to keep hold of him for much longer.

Lloris has established himself as one of the nest goalkeepers in the division, and if David de Gea were to move to Real Madrid this summer, he would surely be high on United’s list as a possible replacement.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku lit up the Europa League this season with some impressive displays, but his side have struggled to reproduce this sort of form in domestic competition and have failed to build on last season’s success where they narrowly missed out on the top four.

This could leave Roberto Martinez with a problem in ensuring his top players stick around, and star man Lukaku is one such player they face a battle to keep.

A club record £28m signing from Chelsea, the Belgian’s new agent has recently come out and claimed he wouldn’t have allowed the 21-year-old to move to Goodison Park in the first place, and with the likes of Wolfsburg interested in signing the Toffees strikers, it would be no surprise to see him leave this summer.

Morgan Schneiderlin

Schneiderlin

With many of their stars exiting St. Mary’s last summer, Southampton’s decision to keep hold of midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin proved to be a huge boost with the Frenchman leading their charge to a top-six finish.

However, it seems increasingly likely they may have to give him his wish of a move to a bigger club, with plenty of interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea among others.

He has been a fantastic servant for the club and a key part in their rise from League One, and will be sorely missed in the middle of their midfield.

Christian Benteke

benteke

The Premier League’s most inform striker, Christain Benteke is flourishing since the arrival of Tim Sherwood at Villa Park.

The Belgian was on the scoresheet yet again as his side defeated Liverpool to reach the FA Cup final, and has played a huge part in their bid to avoid to relegation.

One of the division’s top strikers, it’s been a great achievement for Villa to hang onto their biggest asset for so long, but they could face an uphill battle to ensure he remains at the club for another season.

Manchester United are the latest team to be linked with a move for the powerful forward as a possible replacement for the likes of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, and at 24-years-of-age Benteke may well be considering taking the next step in his career.
