According to The Liverpool Echo, Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed manager Jurgen Klopp was the main factor behind him rejecting Everton and Tottenham Hotspur for a summer transfer to Liverpool.

The Netherlands international arrived in the Premier League last summer with Newcastle United, going on to claim eleven goals and five assists in 38 appearances during his debut campaign.

Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were strongly linked with the 25-year-old following the Magpies' relegation but the Reds emerged as the victors in the transfer battle for his signature last Friday.

The versatile midfielder, who operated as a winger, a No.10 and a centre-mid last season, has now revealed that the allure of working under Jurgen Klopp was the deciding factor in him deciding to reject Everton and Spurs in favour of an Anfield move, following a conversation with the Reds boss.

As quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Wijnaldum told reporters; "In that conversation he made me feel really good. He gave me a lot of confidence because he said he liked my way of playing football. He said I was a person he really wanted to have in his squad.

“Something like that is always good to hear. It made me happy, especially as it came from such a great trainer like Jurgen Klopp. He showed how good he is at Dortmund with all the success he had. It's always great when a trainer of that kind of ability says he needs you in his team.

“There was interest from Everton but Liverpool had more interest. Jurgen gave me a good feeling in that conversation. Straight after that I had the feeling that I wanted to come to Liverpool."

The Dutchman is believed to have cost the Reds £25million.
