Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has revealed that Liverpool are interested in him and refused to rule out a switch to Anfield.
The Dutch striker – who is currently away at the World Cup – has just one year left on his contract at Schalke, and has been linked with the Reds on numerous occasions in recent years.
When Andy Carroll left Merseyside last year Brendan Rodgers was rumoured to have been watching the 30-year-old, but the player himself opted against the switch in order to play Champions League football in Gelsenkirchen.
But a switch may well occur this time around with the German side far from keen to let him move away for free in 12 months’ time, and Huntelaar says that Liverpool are interested in him:
“Regarding rumours about Liverpool it’d only be fair to speak to Schalke first.” He is quoted by The Metro.
“The negotiations with the club have been running for some time.
“After the holidays I’ll speak further with Schalke. This is soon enough.
“I am now speaking with my manager and above the interests of the club. I concentrate on the World Cup.”
Liverpool have confirmed the arrival of Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen to add to the signings of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.
