The Reds look set to announce the £20m Serbian as their fourth signing of the summer soon, after stepping up their interest in his signature with Luis Suarez edging towards Barcelona.
The 20-year-old has been tipped for success for some time after breaking through at Partizan Belgrade.
That was where Grant worked with him, and the Israeli believes that the youngster has almost as much talent as Messi and Ronaldo did at his age:
“I can say that apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Markovic is one of the best talents I’ve ever seen at 19 years of age.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
Markovic left his homeland last year to sign for Benfica, where he shone as the Lisbon side reached the Europa League Final and won the league title.
Current Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic played with him until January, and he echoes the opinions of Grant:
“What can I say about Markovic? It was excellent playing with this kid for six months,
“He has such massive potential that if he changed his attitude in training, he could be one of Europe’s best players in his position.
“But he’s young, he’ll mature, and then nobody will be able to stop him!”
