Things are flying high at the moment for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has got his team playing the sort of football that the club have craved for so, so long and it is even bringing about a fair bit of success.

Winning games with comfort, entertaining the crowd and scaring opponents, Liverpool look the most complete they have done in years.

Football Manager – being the wonderful game it is – enables you to pit your skills against those of Klopp. It gives the opportunity for you to prove that what Klopp is currently achieving isn’t really all that and, in fact, the German is a bit of a flop. Perhaps a little harsh, yes, but Liverpool have a Football Manager squad to envy – apart from their defence, of course.

Question is – where do you start? Is it best to add a little more experience to a relatively young squad? Or do you want to buy cheap youngsters and watch them blossom into world stars? Well, we have a few handy pointers for you…

Santiago Ascacibar

Ascacibar is not a signing for the first season or two of a Liverpool save, but he will certainly more than pay back his transfer fee by 2022.

Worthy of a long, increasing contract, Ascacibar can be an addition to Liverpool’s already youthful midfield. Able to play as the midfield general Liverpool crave, Ascacibar is worth loaning out for the first couple of seasons.

Matthew Targett

With it so evident that a new left-back is needed at Liverpool, it seems a wonderfully fitting time to return to the Southampton-raiding transfer approach that has suited the Reds so well to this point.

Targett can be brought into the club for as little as £4million up front (should you opt for a heavily structured deal) and will be walking into the England squad within a season or two.

Chancel Mbemba

Chancel Mbemba’s ratings do not have any standouts that will catch the eye like many other central defenders in that price range, but Newcastle’s powerful stopper consistently outperforms his numbers.

The greatest thing about bringing Mbemba to Liverpool is his physical stats, mind. Able to dominate even the most powerful of centre forwards and play a high line, Mbemba gives flexibility that others would not.

Zakaria Bakkali

With Liverpool short of natural width on either flank, Zakaria Bakkali is a very good option and he can be available for as little as £10million.

Naturally his acceleration, flair and dribbling stand out and fairly so. Bakkali has not had the best of periods at Valencia, but his Football Manager abilities are yet to meaningfully suffer. The greatest concern, however, is his work-rate.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur, like the majority of players on this list, is a signing for the future.

He may not solve any of your short-term problems with midfield balance, but the balance of his attributes show that he can be a highly versatile player once he comes of age.
