The emergency loan window officially opened yesterday and in case you're not too familiar with the less attractive sister to the transfer window, we've got the basics detailed below:

How long is the emergency loan window?

This year's emergency loan window runs from February 8th until March 24th.

What's its purpose and who can do business?

Premier League clubs can't make new signings or instigate loan deals with each other but those from the Football League can lend from the top flight. Therefore, Premier League clubs use the window to source first-team opportunities for youngsters or fringe players.

Football League outfits, alternatively, look for players who can provide cover or add a bit of quality to their squad.

Why didn't they just sort it in January?

Emergency loans are a little different. They last between 28 and 93 days and the parent club has the right to recall after one month, so Premier League teams are usually more open to the idea of letting youngsters leave on short-term deals.

Any exceptions for the Premier League?

The only type of emergency loan available to Premier League clubs is regarding goalkeepers - and only if all of their current senior options are injured. The now unfortunately departed Marton Fulop joined Manchester City on emergency loan in April 2010 following injuries to Shay Given, Stuart Taylor and David Gonzalez.

So now you're all clued up, we take a look at FIVE Liverpool youngsters who could be set for a loan move to the Football League.

TIAGO ILORI

Jurgen Klopp recalled Tiago Ilori from a loan spell with Aston Villa in January amid a harrowing injury crisis at the heart of defence. But Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho are now fully fit, Martin Skrtel is expected to return to action by the end of the month and the Reds signed Steven Caulker on loan last month.

With Liverpool now out of the FA Cup, the former Portugal U21 international's only real chance of senior football this season comes in the form of the Europa League. There's nothing wrong with using the tournament to blood in young players, but he could be playing weekly football a little lower down the English pyramid.

The 22-year-old failed to register a single appearance for the relegation-bound Villans, so the Championship seems like the right level for him anyway.

JEROME SINCLAIR

Jerome Sinclair appears to have made up his mind about leaving Anfield when his contract expires in the summer and came close to joining Watford during the January transfer window.

The Reds are powerless to stop the prodigious striker going soon, but impressing on loan during the second half of the season could add some value to his compensation fee, which will likely be decided by a tribunal in the summer unless he decides to join a foreign club.

The 19-year-old didn't get up to much on loan at Wigan Athletic last season but recently demonstrated his quality in the FA Cup, netting a composed strike past Exeter City in the third round.

With Watford already interested, a number of Championship clubs will almost certainly be keen to discover what all the fuss is about by taking a punt on the former England U17.

JORDAN ROSSITER

Jordan Rossiter was immediately billed as 'the next Steven Gerrard' after scoring on his Liverpool debut against Middlesbrough last season and is rated as one of the Anfield outfit's most promising youngsters.

Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp have both issued the 18-year-old first team chances and he's likely to feature heavily in the Reds' Europa League campaign this term. But there is no guarantee of how far the Reds will go in the tournament and Rossiter could hold down a regular starting spot at a Football League club.

Likewise, the powerful midfielder's currently recovering from a hamstring injury so in a similar vein of thought to Jon Flanagan, could really benefit from a short-term loan to regain his fitness.

Alternatively, a loan spell for the remainder of the campaign should put Rossiter in good stead for next season, when he's likely to be issued a more consistent role in Liverpool's first team squad.

SHEYI OJO

Sheyi Ojo is an England regular at youth level and impressed whilst on loan with Wolves during the first half of the season, claiming two goals and three assists in 17 Championship appearances - twelve of which were from the bench.

Jurgen Klopp recalled the young winger in January to play in Liverpool's FA Cup tie against Exeter City and he found the net in the replay later that month.

He's another youngster the Reds boss might turn to in the Europa League but the Championship seemed the right level for the England U19 - testing but not completely overwhelming.

Plenty of clubs should be interested after showing his ability to impact in the second tier whilst at the Molineux, including Wolves, and most Championship sides will be open to taking a punt on an 18-year-old winger blessed with power, flair and netting prowess.

Jon Flanagan

Having only recently returned to first team action following 18 months on the sidelines, a loan move could pay off dividends for a young Jon Flanagan looking to recover his fitness and form.

Plenty of Championship clubs would be interested in taking the 23-year-old temporarily; he was excellent for Liverpool during the latter half of the 2013/14 season and even made it onto the standby list for England's World Cup squad.

There is perhaps a risk of the second tier being a little too physical for the one-cap international considering his recent injury problems. But a one-month loan could prove a very shrewd move if it gets the full-back up to speed and allows him to participate regularly in the remainder of Liverpool's campaign.
