Dejan Lovren could soon find himself joined on Merseyside by countryman and fellow Liverpool target Ivan Rakitic.
The Sevilla midfielder has just come to the end of a sensational season, finding twelve goals and ten assists in La Liga and lifting the Europa League title with Los Palanganos.
Famed for his lung-bursting dynamism and impressive all-round game, best illustrated by averages of 1.6 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 2.4 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.1 crosses per match this season, the 26 year-old has often been mooted as a potential successor to Steven Gerrard.
There’s no doubting Rakitic’s leadership qualities either, currently serving as captain for Sevillistas and the Croatian national team.
Furthermore, despite issuing assurances otherwise earlier in the season, the 62-cap Croatia midfielder is set to enter the summer window with just a year left on his current contract.
That could see Rakitic leave south Spain for around £20million, but with Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly circling there will be huge competition for his signature.
