Gonzalo Higuain looks set to be the subject of transfer rumours throughout this summer.

With a host of top European clubs interested, however, it looks like this one might go down to the wire.

One such club that appears to have interest in Higuain is Liverpool, as they look to reinforce following a progressive six months under Klopp last season.

With this being the German manager's first summer transfer window, it offers Klopp the opportunity to reinvent his squad in his own image.

However, there have since been some suggestions that Higuain is not a target for the club, which has rather dampened spirits among Kopites.

Alas, we think that the former River Plate star would be an ideal big name addition for Liverpool, and here are FIVE reasons as to why...

A Proven Winner

When you look for a marquee name, you have to look for someone who is a proven winner. A player who has done it all at the biggest clubs in the world.

In Gonzalo Higuain, you have exactly that.

The Argentine striker is a World Cup runner-up, a three time La Liga winner and has won a host of domestic cups for both Real Madrid and Napoli.

Over the past few years Higuain has seen his reputation improve drastically as he makes a name for himself across Europe.

A summer move to the Premier League with Liverpool is just what he needs to take his career to the next level.

A Statement of Intent

With Higuain’s reputation in Europe steadily increasing, his signing also will help to propel Liverpool to the upper echelons of European football once again.

Under Rodgers, Liverpool were often signing young, smaller talent that they would try to nurture into stars. Yet this very rarely worked.

There’s no doubting the pedigree of Higuain, and by signing him they would definitely make that step from Europa League contenders, to title contenders.

By signing a player like Higuain, Liverpool would be making a real statement of intent: they aren’t going after mid-leaguers anymore, they are looking to challenge for titles and European trophies

Buying Instead of Selling

Argentina v Portugal - International Friendly

Over the last few seasons, Liverpool have made a bit of a name for themselves by selling their star names.

It started with Fernando Torres, and was seen more recently with the sale of Luis Suarez. Of course these sales brought in huge sums of money; but by selling world class players and replacing them with mediocre ones, the club have been in a bit of a downward slump.

With Klopp this has started to change, and Higuain will offer the perfect start to a new era of Liverpool transfer dealings.

Make no mistake, Higuain is a world class player, with world class teams interested. If Liverpool can capture him, we can expect big things from the club.

Goalscoring Record

To understand just how good Higuain is, you just have to look at his goal scoring record.

At Real Madrid he scored 107 goals in just 190 games; better than a goal every two games. That in of itself is a fantastic record, but he has gone on to smash this at Napoli, scoring 71 goals in just 104 games.

Goalscorers that are prolific wherever they go are a rare commodity, and Higuain has that quality in droves.

Not only has he maintained a fantastic record; he’s actually improved it – a record that we’re sure he would look to improve again if he were to head to Anfield.

Liverpool Need Strikers

Higuain

Perhaps the most direct reason as to why Higuain is so needed at Liverpool is that the club are void of any quality forwards.

The Suarez and Daniel Sturridge combination was ripping up defences just a couple of years ago, but since then the club have faltered as a goalscoring threat.

Suarez was sold, and Sturridge has largely suffered with injuries since then. A number of players have been brought in to replicate this goalscoring potential, namely Mario Ballotelli, but success has failed to materialise.
