The Uruguayan menace has been, arguably, English football’s finest player this season, with his 28 goals in 25 games having dragged the Reds into a shock battle for the title with just eight games left to play.
Suarez is already thought of as the team’s current star man, and has even had his name mentioned by fans alongside those of legends such as Kenny Dalgish and Ian Rush.
Macca – who represented Liverpool on 272 occasions – says that after the South American levelled Robbie Fowler’s record season-long goal haul with a hat-trick at Cardiff over the weekend he can go down as Anfield’s best ever forward if he brings the top tier trophy back to the club:
“Luis missed the first five games of the season as well,’ said former England winger McManaman, who played 272 times for Liverpool before moving to Real Madrid.” He is quoted by The Metro.
“He is already going down in Liverpool’s history. If he takes them to the title I think everybody will say he is the greatest centre forward ever.
“Liverpool have been blessed with some centre-forwards haven’t they?
“You quickly forget because we live in the present, but the fact you are even talking about Suarez – after just a couple of years at the club – in the same breath as Robbie or Rushie or Kenny and whoever else shows how much he has learnt at Liverpool and how much he has improved.
“He had a great year last year and he has gone and bettered it despite playing less games which is incredible.”
