After being promised record-breaking signings and Hollywood arrivals by the tabloids, it's safe to say the January transfer window has emphatically failed to deliver. Indeed, all twenty Premier League clubs have made just 28 signings so far this month - only half of which have joined teams in the top half of the table.

But as the February 1st deadline slowly looms in, we could see activity drastically accelerate in the Premier League. Every club has money to spend and every club is in need of a few midseason reinforcements, whilst those players who find themselves marginalised in terms of game-time will inevitably be pushing for a last-minute move.

Liverpool, in particular, will be expected to do some business. They've made two signings already this month in loan acquisition Steven Caulker and youngster Marko Grujic, who will spend the rest of the campaign with Red Star Belgrade, but manager Jurgen Klopp is yet to truly stamp his own ideals onto a squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers.

With that in mind, here are FIVE last-minute deals Liverpool could wrap up before the winter window slams shut...

SHANE LONG

Liverpool saw an £8million bid rejected for Southampton's Shane Long earlier this month but we could see the Anfield outfit revive their interest before January transfer window slams shut, especially considering £32million striker Christian Benteke still finds himself marooned on the bench.

The Ireland international is a scorer of great goals but has never been a great goalscorer, netting just 38 times in 191 appearances throughout his Premier League career - spanning spells with Reading, West Bromwich Albion, Hull City and the Saints.

Nevertheless, you can see why Jurgen Klopp might be interested in the 29-year-old. He's mobile, incredibly quick, likes to run the channels and is famed for his industriousness, making him a far more natural suitor to the Reds' high-pressing game than target man Benteke.

But Southampton have consistently warned that none of their players will leave this month without a stupid fee involved. Long's a decent player, but certainly not one worth paying over the odds for.

JEROME SINCLAIR

On the outward front, contract rebel Jerome Sinclair seems the likeliest to leave Anfield before the end of the transfer window.

The 19-year-old striker is rated as one of Liverpool's most exciting youngsters and recently impressed with a goal-grabbing display against Exeter City in the FA Cup. But his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and a new deal seems incredibly unlikely, especially after switching agents to the notorious Aidy Ward.

The Reds will be entitled to a compensation agreement decided by a tribunal - in the same manner as Danny Ings' move to Anfield - if Sinclair joins another Premier League club in the summer.

But Watford are keen to strike up a deal this month instead and recent reports claim the two clubs are set for talks at some point this week. Liverpool reportedly value the teenager at around £3million.

MARC-ANDRE TER STEGEN

Liverpool may have just handed Simon Mignolet a new five-year contract but the tabloids seem to think they're still in the market for a goalkeeper - with Barcelona's Marc-Andre Ter Stegen somewhere near the top of the list.

Jurgen Klopp will be more than aware of the German international's enormous potential from his three campaigns as Borussia Monchengladbach's No.1 and is reportedly looking to capitalise on his secondary status at the Nou Camp.

Sharing duties with Claudio Bravo, the 23-year-old has been reserved almost exclusively for Copa del Rey and Champions League action during his 18 months with the Catalans - yet seems more than capable of holding down a starring role at another club of similar stature.

The Reds have already seen a £10million bid rejected according to the tabloids, with Barcelona valuing Ter Stegen at around double that sum. But Mirror Football claim Liverpool are determined to sign him this month, in fear of the competition they could face during the summer.

ALEX TEIXEIRA

Liverpool's interest in Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira is no great secret, having reportedly launched a £23million bid for the attacking midfielder last week.

The Brazilian has bagged 26 goals in as many appearances for the Ukrainian outfit this season, including three strikes in the Champions League, and looks set to become the latest Shakhtar star to leave the club for a hefty fee and mainstream European football.

Liverpool saw their opening bid rebuffed alongside a rumoured £29million follow-up offer. But The Express claim they're willing to match Shakhtar's £38million valuation - providing the fee is divvied between a set of performance-related bonuses and not paid up front.

With Chelsea also known admirers of the 25-year-old, however, Liverpool need to get a deal over the line as quickly as possible.
