Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is confident that with a few key signings his team can prove that this season was not a flash in the pan.
The Reds have risen from a seventh placed finish last term to be in the battle for the Premier League title going into the last game of the campaign.
In truth the Merseysiders are unlikely to end their wait for English football’s top prize on Sunday with Manchester City realistically only needing a draw at home to West Ham to lift the trophy.
Some have suggested that balancing Champions League football and domestic action may be too much for Liverpool next term, but Gerrard believes that with a few wise purchases this summer they can build on a fine campaign:
“I have a huge belief that if this group of players stick together and we can make the right couple of additions to strengthen it again in the summer, the future is bright for this club.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“There is no doubt about that.”
Liverpool have been linked with a host of top players in recent weeks amid talk that Brendan Rodgers will be handed a transfer kitty of over £60m on the back of Champions League qualification.
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Barcelona attackers Yevhen Konoplyanka and Cristian Tello are seen as top targets, while Southampton captain Adam Lallana has been linked with a £25m Anield switch.
Manchester City’s injury-prone defender Micah Richards is also a name in the mix, while reports also suggest that Marcos Rojo of Sporting Lisbon in on their radar.
