Steven Gerrard says Liverpool need to qualify for the Champions League if they are to stand a chance of keeping Luis Suarez at Anfield, the Daily Mail report.

Suarez starred in the 5-0 demolition of Norwich on Saturday, capping his performance with a goal, to move Brendan Rodgers’ side to within seven points of the Premier League top four after a strong start to 2013.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan striker has offered no hints that he wants to quit Merseyside despite his scintillating form attracting the attention of clubs across Europe – Bayern Munich the latest to be linked – but Reds skipper Gerrard is hopeful the club can give Suarez the opportunity to test himself against the continents elite.

“I know he’s signed recently a long-term contract,” he said . “I know that he’s comfortable and he’s happy here. But I think that’s a  question for Luis to answer.

“Only he knows what his ambitions and dreams are. He’s gone on record recently and said he’s really happy and comfortable here.
“Hopefully we can put a fight on from now until the end of the season to finish fourth, and make the decision for him. But Luis Suarez deserves to be in the Champions League. I think everyone has to admit that.”
