Pepe Reina says that he is ready to stay at Liverpool after returning to the club from Napoli.
The Spanish goalkeeper was expected to never play another game for the Reds after leaving them to move to Italy on loan after agitating for a switch to Barcelona.
However, both the La Liga giants and Napoli have opted against moving for him, which has led to the experienced stopper heading back to the Merseysiders – whom he is with on their pre-season tour of America.
Brendan Rodgers was thought to have been upset with the way in which Reina conducted himself before heading off, and moved to snap up Simon Mignolet to be his No. 1 for the foreseeable future.
Although his situation has been clouded of late, the 31-year-old says that he will be staying with Liverpool:
“I have a contract to respect with Liverpool. I’m training well and I am perfectly fine with my team-mates,” he is quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“I am here to stay. I have not talked to Brendan Rodgers, I’ve been here for only four days and I am just thinking of training to my best and getting back into shape.”
However, Reina went on to say that he does want to return to Spain:
“At the moment all the big Spanish teams are covered in my role, so I see it as very difficult to return to Spain.
“It’s normal though that over the years you want to return to where you came from, so we’ll see.”
