Liverpool forward Iago Aspas says he will not leave Anfield in January and is willing to fight for his future at the club.

The Spaniard was snapped up by the Merseyside giants over the summer after an impressive season with La Liga minnows Celta Vigo.

Despite having a reputation as one of the division’s top forward-thinking talents, he has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, with a short run in Brendan Rodgers first-team curtailed by injury.

He has since returned to full-fitness, but has had to remain content with a spot on the bench due to the form of talismanic striker Luis Suarez, who took his goal tally to 17 in 11 league outings against Tottenham over the weekend.

His lack of action has led to rumours of a winter move back to his homeland, with Valencia thought to be particularly keen.

However Aspas says that he is ready to stay and prove his worth at Liverpool:

“I want to make it at Liverpool. I’m sure the fans will see the best of me soon.” He is quoted The Metro.

“I knew I was coming to one of the biggest clubs in Europe to play alongside world-class players. I was always in the team at Celta and it was plain sailing. Here at Liverpool I have to earn my place, just like any other signing.

“It’s not easy breaking into a team with so many top-class players. It’s not easy breaking into a team with so many top-class players. I’m working hard every day to try to get more game time.”
