Leading up to the weekend fixture featuring Liverpool and Cardiff City, live on BT Sport at 12:45 on Saturday, there’s one question everyone is asking: ‘Is Suarez the best player in the Premier League?’ Malky Mackay and his men will have their most difficult task yet in their Premier League campaign as they look to silence the Kop’s conjurer.

Forgetting his antics off the pitch, there is no doubt that Luis Suarez is one of the best players in the Premier League at the moment. Serving his 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, Luis Suarez’s position looked under threat as Liverpool began the season in fine form. Daniel Sturridge had Chelsea fans crying on their knees as they struggled in front of goal. Luis Suarez marked his return to the Premier League with a brace away at Sunderland and since then he has terrorised the best of back lines in English football.

The Uruguay International’s goal-scoring record is exceptional. Before making his move to Merseyside, Luis Suarez tore up the Eredivisie league with Ajax, scoring 81 league goals in 110 games for the Netherlands club. So it was no wonder the Kop were pleased to see him arrive at Liverpool. But what makes Suarez stand out from the likes of Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero?

At just 5ft 11inches and only weighing 12st, Suarez isn’t your stereotypical Premier League striker – tall and quick, stocky and strong; yet this Uruguayan sensation possesses all the attributes that any striker would dream of having. Take Robin Van Persie for example, a world class striker who’ll bag 20 goals a season easily, but if the service isn’t there for him to feed off, rarely will he produce a moment of magic with an individual run and a finish at the end of it. Not many players have that in them.

His ability to run at defenders whilst keeping the ball glued to his foot, is one of the main skills that he possesses; this makes him so difficult to play against. A lot of modern day strikers lack the ability to run at defences and cause mayhem like Luis Suarez does. He’s the definition of an all-round attacker. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the only other examples that spring to mind when you think of a player that will use their individual passion with their skill, to create something magical.

Sitting at the top of the goalscorers’ chart for the Premier League, Suarez leads second placed Sergio Aguero by three goals already. In just 11 league appearances, Luis Suarez has netted 17 goals. Whereas Argentine striker, Sergio Aguero, has played 15 league games and still trails the Liverpool talisman by 3 goals. Hypothetically speaking, if this current form continues and Liverpool avoided serious injuries to their frontman, Suarez would have around 45 goals by the end of the season, smashing the previous record of goals in a season – held by Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo at 31 goals each. Admittedly, this is unlikely, as even the best players normally hit droughts throughout a season, but it is a huge possibility given the form both Luis Suarez is in and Liverpool are in.

Man City will now have to play without their top talisman in Sergio Aguero, after being ruled out for up to a month, leaving the Kop’s demon – as Wenger recently described his transfer target – with a chance to extend his lead at the top of the goalscorers’ chart.

On current form, Luis Suarez is without a doubt one of the best players in the world, let alone in the Premier League. His performance against Norwich was sensational. Scoring 4 goals and assisting Raheem Sterling for the 5th, Luis Suarez stood taller than any other player on that pitch. Aaron Ramsey would have to be the closest player to Luis Suarez in current form, however the Argentine is vast becoming a Liverpool legend as he continues to dazzle the Premier League week-in week-out.
