Liverpool star Lucas claims that he would happy for Nigel De Jong to join the Anfield club before the transfer deadline passes.
The tough-tackling ex-Manchester City midfielder has been mooted as a potential arrival on Merseyside over the course of the past few weeks, with Brendan Rodgers keen to bulk out his squad for a top four push.
Lucas’ injury problems have exposed a lack of depth in Liverpool’s central options, with the Brazilian their only genuine holding player.
De Jong is rumoured to be seen as a good option to add some steel to the Reds’ engine room, with a loan swoop for the AC Milan ace believed to be a possibility.
Although the enforcer would be in direct competition with Lucas, the Kop ace says that he would be happy to see him in the red shirt:
“He is a good player and produced many good performances at Manchester City,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“If he comes it will be good for the squad because it’s important to have a strong squad.
“I believe that if anyone comes who plays in my position it will not be because of my injury but rather to strengthen the squad.”
Liverpool are expected to be busy today, with Yevhen Konoplyanka a major target, while a bid for Rubin Kazan’s Yann M’Vila has also been suggested.
