Liverpool have been given major encouragement to launch a move for Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri, with the player confessing that he’s ready to move to England.
The Reds have been strongly linked with the Swiss attacker in recent weeks, with some suggesting that he is being viewed as an alternative to Southampton star Adam Lallana – whose valuation is set at almost £25m.
Brendan Rodgers was also linked with a loan move for the 22-year-old in January, but ultimately saw his efforts thwarted as the youngster elected to stay in Munich and battle for first-team minutes.
However his quest to dislodge the likes of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robber was ultimately fruitless, and Shaqiri says that he would be open to joining an English side playing in the Champions League – criteria that Liverpool match:
“I don’t want to go through another year like this,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“We will see what happens, but I only want to play for a major club – the Champions League is important to me.
“England would be an option. If I were to leave Bayern, it will be for a foreign club. But it will have to be a club challenging for the title.”
A £15m move for Shaqiri is being mooted, with Rodgers said to have over £60m to spend in the coming months.
