Brendan Rodgers has taken a swipe at Arsenal in the aftermath of Luis Suarez’s four goal showing against Norwich City, claiming the Uruguayan ‘might be worth £40million and two pounds now’, reports the Metro.
Rodgers’ cheeky comments were aimed at Arsenal after their pursuit of Suarez in the summer saw them make an official offer of £40million and one pound.
Arsenal mistakenly believed an offer of anything over £40million would trigger a release clause in Suarez’s contract, and Liverpool are now reaping the benefits of keeping hold of their star man.
The Uruguayan turned in another sensational display against Norwich on Wednesday night, scoring four goals, three of which could stand as early contenders for goal of the month.
“It’s a joy to watch and I still think his best years are going to be here – you can just see it’s a hand-in-glove fit for him. He enjoys it here, it’s the happiest I’ve seen him,” Rodgers said.
“He has such a connection with this club and Anfield, he has a massive profile here and he feels so much at home. And don’t forget we create the conditions for him to produce his best.
“That was sheer brilliance, I haven’t seen many individual performances like that before.
“It was remarkable. I think you have to hold him up as one of the best strikers in the world – and yes, he’s may be worth £40million and two pounds now!”
