Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Norwegian starlet Valon Berisha from Red Bull Salzburg, with negotiations already under way, according to the Metro.
The midfielder has been watched closely by the Reds for some time, and scouts were present to watch him in action in a friendly win over Bayern Munich, and last month’s league triumph over Austria Wien.
Reports from Norway suggest talks have already begun, and could be boosted by the fact former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier is the global sports director for Salzburg.
Brendan Rodgers is yet to make any signings this month, although reports suggest he will move for Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah this week.
20-year-old Berisha had trials with Chelsea during his mid-teens, and has also reportedly turned down offers from both Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Already a full Norwegian international, Berisha is set to cost Liverpool £2.5million.
Rodgers has made strengthening his midfield a priority this month, following the news yesterday that Brazilian Lucas is set to miss two months of the season with a knee ligament injury.
