The Reds yesterday moved closer to snapping up ‘Mad Mario’ from AC Milan, as the striker jetted in for a medical and agreed personal terms with the Merseysiders.
Although an agreement looks likely to be finalised early next week, the Anfield outfit are keeping a deal for Eto’o on ice in case Balotelli’s switch collapses.
It’s understood that a contract has been settled with the 33-year-old and a medical was completed yesterday in Paris, but the swoop is only likely to go through in a worst case scenario.
Balotelli is thought to have convinced Brendan Rodgers that he is a risk worth taking, with reports indicating that he’s accepted a contract in which his earnings are heavily dependent on good behaviour and reaching targets.
Liverpool may look to snap up Eto’o as well, but with Sunderland’s proposed move for Fabio Borini on the verge of collapse, the veteran former Barcelona and Inter Milan ace may be overlooked.
Everton and Tottenham are said to be watching the African star.
