Liverpool could challenge Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to the Express.
The German midfielder is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu this summer and has been linked with moves to both Man United and Arsenal in recent weeks.
But Liverpool are thought to be considering a move for the 27-year-old as Brendan Rodgers looks to build a side capable of improving their 2nd place Premier League finish last term.
The Germany international was reported to be a £30m target for Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, but Rodgers is confident he can nab him for as little as half of that valuation.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Southampton’s Adam Lallana appears to be a long way from being resolved, with the south coast club reportedly demanding around £30m for the St. Mary’s skipper.
And with Liverpool hesitant at paying such a fee for Lallana, they could turn their attentions to Khedira, who may also be a target for Chelsea.
