Liverpool supporters were hit with a reality check this week when their former player Luis Suarez committed his future to Barcelona.

A return to Anfield for the Uruguayan was always a long shot when he departed Merseyside for Camp Nou in the summer of 2014, but some still held hope that he would one day don the red shirt again.

Suarez developed into one of the best attacking players in global football at Liverpool, where he scored 69 Premier League goals in three-and-a-half years.

Since arriving at Barcelona in 2014 he has netted a staggering 97 goals in all competitions, and he is likely to continue thriving in the Catalan city after penning a new contract until 2021.

Not only is he tied down to the Spanish giants for another five years, any club wanting to sign him will have to fork out a mammoth €200m (£167.7m) to meet his new release clause.

It seems as though Liverpool fans have accepted that Suarez is highly unlikely to be gracing the Anfield pitch again, although some are feeling rather emotional about it.

Many have expressed their disappointment on Twitter, while others have used the opportunity to poke fun at Liverpool's following.
