Liverpool given green light for Spaniard swoop

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno, with the left-back having been axed from Spain’s World Cup squad, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 21-year-old is believed to be one of the Reds’ top targets for the coming few months, with Brendan Rodgers having given the go-ahead for a raid.

Talks between the clubs are on-going, but it is thought that the Merseysiders will match the Europa League champions’ £16.2m valuation after lodging an initial bid worth around the same amount with midfielder Suso included.

There were however worries that the agreement may take some time to push through, with Moreno having been a part of Spain’s 30-man squad for the World Cup.

But the defender was cut during Vicente Del Bosque’s whittling down process, leaving him free to travel and finalise a switch.

Moreno is believed to be keen to make the move, while Sevilla are resigned to losing their starlet.

Rodgers is understood to see him as his new first-choice left-back after being forced to play academy graduate Jon Flanagan on the opposite side of the pitch to that he was used to during the end of last season.
