Liverpool idol Jan Molby has called on Brendan Rodgers to tie up a £20m move for Swansea’s Wilfried Bony.

The Reds have been linked with the Ivorian ace for much of the summer, but a deal looked to be off when they instead pursued QPR hit-man Loic Remy.

Yet with a swoop for the Frenchman having collapsed due to medical issues, the Merseysiders are once again on the lookout for a player to fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s £75m switch to Barcelona.

Although he has only been a Swans first-teamer for 12 months, there are suggestions that Bony is available for £20m, with a host of clubs having been impressed by his 25 goals haul in his debut season in England.

Molby – a former midfielder at Anfield – believes that the 25-year-old front-man would be a wise addition at such a price:

“Liverpool will look at other targets and Bony would be a good option.” He told the Daily Star.

“I know Swansea are making noises about cashing in on Bony and I think he would be a very good buy with his physical and technical attributes.

“And scoring 25 goals in a struggling team is not to be sniffed at, not in your first season at this level.

“He would probably cost around £20m but it would be well spent, particularly given Fabio Borini will exit for Sunderland for around £14m if all goes to plan.”
