Liverpool hero urges move for Saints skipper

Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged the club to sign Southampton’s Adam Lallana.

The Express are reporting that Barnes has implored the Reds to meet the Saint’s £30million transfer demands for the midfielder, believing that Lallana would comfortably live up to the standards of Champions League football:

“They need more strength in depth,” said the 50-year-old.

“Especially in terms of the back four and defensive midfield players. You need a well rounded squad for the Champions League.I like Lallana and he can play a number of different roles. He can play behind a frontman, he can play wide, he can play central.

“Of course he’s English which is good. Brendan is trying to implement this British thread throughout the team which I believe in. I think he would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.”

The Reds sealed their place in next season’s Champions League after finishing second in the league, just 2 points adrift of winners Manchester City. And with Rodgers looking to bring in new faces to cope with the demands of playing top level midweek football, the Saints captain could be one of many to move to Anfield this summer.

Fellow Southampton man Rickie Lambert has already secured his dream move to Merseyside, whilst Alberto Moreno, Emre Can and Xerdan Shaqiri have all been heavily linked with the Reds.
