Liverpool are ready to make a serious end of season move for Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Saints star has emerged as, arguably, the Premier League’s top young talent this year, establishing himself as a first-team regular at club level and earning his England debut despite being just 18-years-old.

Naturally, a number of the division’s ‘big boys’ are hunting the defender’s signature, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all believed to be chasing a move.

But now Liverpool are also in the battle, as Brendan Rodgers looks to solve his left-back problems.

The Northern Irishman has been playing young right-sided defender Jon Flanagan in the role in recent times following Jose Enrique’s injury woes, and despite the Merseyside-born star having impressed, he is not seen as a long-term solution.

Shaw however is, with the teenager already being talked about as England’s next first choice left-back.

With Champions League qualification at Anfield looking to be a certainty, Rodgers is likely to have the funds in place to meet Southampton’s £30m valuation, and he is known to have the level of ambition required to pursue such a deal.

Chelsea are favourites to land Shaw, with the youngster known to be a Blues fan.
