Liverpool are considering a summer move for Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The German stopper is a former Manchester United player, but he failed to make the grade at Old Trafford during a five year stay.

He eventually left in 2010 to get his career back on track and has since thrived in his homeland.

The 25-year-old is now a regular starter at Hannover, and is widely thought of as one of the Bundesliga’s finest glovesmen.

His displays have alerted Brendan Rodgers, who is believed to be looking to draft in a new ‘keeper to challenge Simon Mignolet for a starting berth.

Although the Belgian has enjoyed a decent debut season at Anfield so far, he has shown signs that he may not be the man needed for a title push, while his backup Brad Jones is widely thought of as a less than acceptable stand-in.

Zieler could be drafted in to keep the Reds’ number one on his toes, and possibly dislodge him in the long-term.

The former United star is thought of as a decent shot-stopper, has a good command of his area and has even represented Germany twice at senior international level.
