Liverpool are plotting a move for Jay Rodriguez amid uncertainty at Southampton, according to reports from the Daily Star.

News of the Saints’ chairman Nicola Cortese’s decision to quit the Hampshire club broke yesterday, and the Italian could be followed out of the door by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Should this happen, it could spark a mass exodus at St Mary’s Stadium, with a number of the club’s players on the radars of some of the Premier League’s elite sides.

Liverpool are one outfit ready to take advantage of the situation with a shock move for Rodriguez.

The 24-year-old forward has enjoyed a wonderful 2013/14 so far, which saw him handed a first international cap by Roy Hodgson late last year.

Brendan Rodgers is a fan of the versatile ex-Burnley man, and is convinced the eight-goal ace could fit into his Reds team.

Southampton signed Rodriguez for £7m in 2012, and it is likely that they would look for around double that figure to sell.

Liverpool could also up their interest in Adam Lallana. The attacking midfielder – and club captain – has been, arguably, Southampton’s top performer this season.
