The Spaniard left the Premier League on loan this season, as Brendan Rodgers brought in Simon Mignolet from Sunderland. Reina had been tipped to join Barcelona last summer, leading to Rodger’s purchase of the Belgian.
Instead, Reina moved to Napoli on a season-long loan, where he has helped the club to second in the Serie A table. And on the weekend, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis told the shot stopper that he will be staying at the Stadio San Paolo: “After yesterday’s victory I went down to the locker room and I promised the players a bonus if they can finish second.” De Laurentiis said.
“Then I talked to Reina and told him that he must remain with us. I want him confirmed for next season. He was happy, for him it was a double reward.”
Despite the odd howler, something Reina committed during his Liverpool days, Mignolet has done well at Anfield, with the Reds currently top of the Premier League. And it appears he won’t be challenged for the number 1 spot next season, with Reina to stay in Naples instead of returning to Merseyside.
