Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has urged the Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers to make a move for Swansea’s Wilfred Bony as he continues his pursuit for a striker.

Rodgers is in the market for a striker following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

The Liverpool manager has been credited with a strong interest in Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao in recent weeks, but Nicol believes Rodgers should be looking closer to home.

“They need another striker. It’s unlikely that Daniel Sturridge is going to stay fit and be able to play every game”, he told TalkSport.

“I’m sorry they haven’t got Wilfred Bony because I think he would be a great player for Liverpool.

“He’s a proven striker in the Premier League, he scores goals, and he has played with a side that is similar in style to Liverpool. He would settle into Liverpool very quickly. I’m hoping that would be the signing.”

Swansea signed Bony from Vitesse Arnhem last summer for around £12 million and he impressed in his first season netting 26 goals in all competitions.

Bony would add to a busy summer at Liverpool, having already signed Rickie Lambert, Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren, and Alberto Moreno.
