With one of the biggest games of the season now edging ever-closer, both Manchester United and Liverpool supporters have every right to be nervous ahead of Monday evening's showdown.

It means so much to both sets of supporters off the pitch but on it, both teams need the three points too.

United have laboured slightly in recent weeks and will want to solidify winning ways, whilst Liverpool will want to get a win in front of their own supporters at Anfield.

What we do know is the game will be fiery and hot-tempered with some real characters on the pitch, some of which will be getting their first taste of Manchester derby day.

But ahead of the tie, we want to open the vault to take a look at the most elite combined eleven from both sides over the years.

So with that in mind, here's our all-time best Liverpool vs Manchester combined XI of the Premier League era. Do you agree?

GK: Peter Schmeichel

Peter Schmeichel is one of the world's best ever goalkeepers, let alone just from our Manchester United/Liverpool XI.

The great Dane featured almost three hundred times for the Red Devils in an eight-year spell and he will go down as the best keeper United have ever had.

RB: Gary Neville

Whilst his managerial career might not have gotten off to the start he would have liked, there is no doubting Gary Neville was one of United's best-ever full-backs.

He played for United for entirety of his career, making over 400 appearances and winning eight Premier League titles.

CB: Jamie Carragher

Another one-club man and the first Liverpool player to feature in our side is Jamie Carragher, who has rightfully so become a real legend on Merseyside.

He was an honest, down-to-earth footballer who never lost his way off the pitch. If there's a man that has inspired a generation of kids in Liverpool, it's Jamie Carragher.

CB: Rio Ferdinand

Another United man who will never have to buy a pint in Manchester for the rest of his life is Rio Ferdinand, who enjoyed great success after moving to the club from Leeds United.

Ferdinand won dozens of honours during his time at Old Trafford but captaining his side to the 2008 Champions League win must be one the highlight of his career.

LB: John Arne Riise

As well as giving us one of the best pieces of commentary we think we've ever heard, former Reds left-back John Arne Riise will also be remembered for his work on the pitch.

He was an industrious, endearing and hard-working character who had a brutal left foot capable of rasping the ball into the net at any given time.

Also a part of the 2005 Champions winning squad - a day that will long go down in Liverpool history.

RM: Steve McManaman

Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach - UEFA Champions League Group Stage - Group C

It's a difficult choice this and we were tempted to put a centre-midfielder out on the flank but where's the fun in that!?

We eventually went for Liverpool flanker Steve McManaman who joined the club back in 1990. He was one of the most exciting wide men to have ever graced the pitch for the Reds and perhaps one of the most skillful too.

A popular figure who made over 270 appearances for Liverpool.

CM: Steven Gerrard

A slightly obvious first pick in the middle of the park is Steven Gerrard, who will long go down as the best player in Liverpool's history.

Adored by every single Reds fan across the world, it's really quite difficult to put into words how much Stevie G inspired the kids of Liverpool to play football.

An honest, loyal and extremely talented footballer.

CM: Paul Scholes

Another Class of 92 man who features in this lineup is Paul Scholes, who lets face it, was always going to get in this side.

Eleven Premier League titles later, he will forever be known for his wayward tackles, leadership and the ability to get on the scoresheet too.

718 appearances and over 155 goals is a fantastic club record.

LM: Ryan Giggs

We're not sure much has to be said about Ryan Giggs' Manchester United career apart from the fact he was absolutely fantastic for years.

He made a staggering 963 appearances for the Red Devils during his time at the club and quickly became renowned for his skill and dynamacy out on the left-hand flank.

It's difficult to see anyone coming close to the success the Welshman achieved during his time at the club.

ST: Luis Suarez

Media controversies aside, when we're talking pure football, Luis Suarez has got to be in the lineup as one of the best Liverpool forwards the club has ever seen.

82 goals in just over 130 appearances is staggeringly good and he's just so naturally gifted. He's effortless on the ball, his runs are full of guile and craft and when it comes to goalscoring, you'd bet big money on him hitting the target more often than not.

ST: Cristiano Ronaldo

As well as being one of the biggest stars in world football, it's difficult to remember a time when baby-faced Cristiano Ronaldo first hit the big-time at Manchester United.

But it was in the 2007-2008 season whern Ronaldo really came into a world of his own, scoring 42 goals in 48 appearances. Form like that quickly prompted a move to Real Madrid, where he has continued to dominate world football.
