The Reds currently fins themselves in second spot after 15 games, with Arsenal only five points ahead in a close race for English football’s top prize.
Liverpool’s form under Brendan Rodgers this term has come as a bit of a surprise, with the Merseyside outfit having endured several miserable domestic campaigns and been absent from the Champions League for four years.
However, the electric form of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge has been instrumental in the club’s rise, and Sakho – a summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain – says that although qualifying for Europe’s top club competition next season is their main aim, winning the title is already in the players’ thoughts:
“We have to concentrate on the main objective which is qualifying for the Champions League.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“The possibility of winning the Premier League is something in the back of our minds.”
Liverpool have benefitted from a slightly more straight forward opening few months of 2013/14 than some of their rivals, and could find their title credentials tested to the limit over the Christmas period as they face trips to Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City.
