The German youth international completed his £10m switch to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen earlier today after establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s top prospects at the BayArena.
He will link up with the squad that took Manchester City to the final day of 2013/14 in the battle for the title, in what was a shock season on Merseyside given their eighth place finish in 2012/13.
Although the teams around them are strengthening and Luis Suarez – the Reds’ top scorer from last term with 31 league goals – looks to be heading off, Can says that he wants to be a champion in 12 months’ time:
“I believe this season the team finished second in the league, so I want to be a Premier League champion next season,” he told the club’s official website.
“It was an easy decision for me to sign with Liverpool as I had a very good chat with the manager, which clearly showed that the club and he wanted to sign me.
“This was important for me. I can say it was an easy decision for me.”
