Liverpool are ready to take on Manchester United in the race for Southampton’s Adam Lallana, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The Saints captain has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this term, and is widely being tipped to make England’s World Cup squad on the back of his stunning displays.

Despite being one of the South Coast outfit’s star men, talk of a move away from the club has been circulating in recent weeks, with United said to be interested.

But now Liverpool are also in the battle for the silky playmaker.

The Reds are ready to mount a serious offer for the £20m-rated 25-year-old and offer him wages in the region of £50,000-per-week.

Unlike United, the Anfield club will be able to present Lallana with guaranteed Champions League action, which could be a deciding factor with the player himself said to have ambitions of playing top level European football.

Tottenham have also been linked with him, yet they are also unable to offer him such an opportunity which may leave Liverpool as standout candidates.
