Liverpool are ready to offer Victor Valdes a quick return to top level football, but only if he can pass a stringent medical, according to reports from AS.

The Spanish goalkeeper is currently without a club after seeing out his contract with Barcelona as he searched for a new challenge.

Monaco were expected to snap him up, but an ACL injury suffered while in action for the Catalans saw the Ligue 1 giants opt out.

Since then Valdes has been without a club, but Liverpool are understood to have agreed a contract with him.

Now reports claim that could become the club’s tenth signing of the summer next month, but only if he can prove his fitness.

It’s understood that the 32-year-old’s progress under treatment has been outstanding – he is on track to play again in December – but Brendan Rodgers’ side will only offer him a one-year deal on the proviso that he can get back the sort of form he showed as Barca dominated European football.

Although the transfer window closed earlier this week, Valdes can still be signed at any stage given his free agent status.

Rodgers sees the veteran as good competition for Simon Mignolet, who has produced a number of wobbly displays in his year and a half on Merseyside.
