The Spanish left-back – who narrowly missed out on a spot in his nation’s World Cup squad – has been mooted as one of the Reds’ top summer targets for some time, and it was thought that a deal for his signature was close to completion a matter of weeks ago.
But despite talk of a £16m fee having been agreed, the Europa League champions have since had a change of heart and are now thought to be demanding around £20m.
Some reports have suggested that Liverpool have since ended their interest in the 21-year-old, however this is not the case.
Brendan Rodgers is still hopeful that a deal can be thrashed out with the La Liga club, with the player himself understood to have shown a willingness to relocate to Anfield.
Some figures on Merseyside believe that Sevilla are attempting to start an auction for their man, but as of yet speculated interest from Tottenham and Real Madrid has not transformed into an offer.
Liverpool are however looking at alternatives, with Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand and Argentine Marcos Rojo in the frame.
