Liverpool remain joint favourites to land Ajax ace

Christian-Eriksen-Ajax-Manchester-City-Champi_2850027Liverpool are joint favourites with Roma in the race for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to reports from The Metro.

The Danish international has been on the Anfield club’s radar for some time, but their interest was believed to have cooled.

But, after missing out on their number one summer target Henrikh Mikhitaryan – who recently opted to join Borussia Dortmund – Brendan Rodgers is once again keen on Eriksen.

The 21-year-old is almost certain to leave Amsterdam in the coming months, with his contract due to expire next summer.

Due to this Ajax are willing to accept a cut-price offer for their star man rather than risking losing him for free next year.

Reports suggest that both Liverpool and Roma are leading the race, with the duo in search of a new playmaker.

The Serie A giants are aware that they may need to replace Chelsea target Daniel De Rossi in the not too distant future, and see Eriksen as the ideal candidate.

But, Liverpool are hopeful of convincing him to join their project, with the presence of international team-mate Daniel Agger thought to be key.

The Reds have done business on Ajax on a number of occasions, with Luis Suarez the last man to make the trip from the Amsterdam ArenA to Anfield.

Liverpool fans, could missing out on Henrikh Mikhitaryan prove to be a blessing in disguise if you get Christian Eriksen?
