Although a strong team with a number of top players, few predicted that the Reds could mount a serious push for English football’s top prize this term.
However, with just 11 games left to play, the Anfielders find themselves only four points from the summit and in excellent form.
Liverpool’s leaky backline has been questioned of late, but with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge having contributed majorly to their 70 goal haul – the league’s highest tally as it stands – talk of lifting the trophy for the first time since 1990 has increased.
Toure – one of four players at the club to have a Premier League winner’s medal to his name already – feels that his team-mates must stay grounded and maintain their level of performance if they are to claim the title:
“We just need now to keep calm and do what we have been doing, if we continue that we will get the same results,” he is quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“There are going to be some tough games; Southampton (this Saturday) is a tough place to go but I think we can score goals and defend well as a team and we are working hard.”
