Fabio Borini is eager to stay at Liverpool and fight for his spot in the first-team despite the club’s recent move for Rickie Lambert.
His performances in the red and white shirt made him a hit among the North East side’s fans, leading to talk that he could be kept on to add to his tally of seven goals and three assists.
But with Liverpool having secured Champions League football Brendan Rodgers has indicated that he is desperate to welcome back his first big money signing of his Anfield era.
However with Lambert having been snapped up to play a back-up role to Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, there have been doubts cast over the 23-year-old’s role on Merseyside in recent days.
But Borini’s agent, Marco De Marchi, says that his client is more than happy to stay with the Reds and fight for playing time:
“Does Lambert’s arrival close the door on Fabio Borini? No, I don’t think so,” he is quoted by The Express.
“In this last season, Fabio gave a considerable contribution towards keeping Sunderland up. He was praised by everyone, especially by the Liverpool manager Rodgers.
“So, after his holidays he will go back to Liverpool to prepare for the new season wearing the shirt of this historic club.
“He wants to compete with everyone and be an extra resource for the coach and the team.
“Borini could be of use to any team, but no one has contacted us and his desire is to show what he’s got at Liverpool.”
