Iago Aspas’ agent has scrapped rumours that his client is ready to leave Liverpool by insisting that the club and player are happy with their current relationship.
The Spanish striker only joined the Reds last summer from Celta Vigo in a £7.7m deal, but has struggled to make any impact on Merseyside in what has been an excellent season for the Reds.
Aspas has managed just 13 outings for Liverpool, finding the back of the net on only one occasion – during an FA Cup tie with Oldham.
This has led to talk that he may be axed with Fabio Borini set to return from a relatively successful loan spell at Sunderland, which was further fuelled by the player’s recent remarks at his lack of playing time.
But Aspas’ agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster, says that his client is not looking to leave Liverpool:
“There is no possibility of a return to Spain for Iago, or for a move elsewhere.” He is quoted by The Express.
“Iago has a four-year contract with Liverpool and he is happy to be at the Reds, aside from the fact that he would certainly like to play more.
“But [Brendan] Rodgers is happy with him and they are not thinking about a transfer.”
Reports have suggested that interest in Aspas from clubs in Spain and Italy is high ahead of the summer.
