Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has revealed that he would “love” to return to Barcelona at the end of the season.
The Reds stopper is currently on a season-long loan with Napoli, but is widely expected to have already played his last game for the Merseyside club following the arrival of Simon Mignolet.
Reina was heavily linked with a switch to Barca – the club with which he made his professional debut – during the last transfer window as a replacement for Victor Valdes.
However, the current Catalan number one elected to stay for the current campaign, but has already confessed that he will leave the Nou Camp once his contract expires in just over six months’ time.
The La Liga champions are currently thought to be scouting new keepers, and Reina is said to be high on their list of candidates.
The 31-year-old says that he would jump at the chance to return to his former side, but that he knows a move is not guaranteed.
“I would love to return to Barcelona, to play at Barca is a privilege. But I imagine that my name is on a list with others,” Reina told Sky Sports.
“Barca is a top club and Victor Valdes’ departure will have alerted other candidates so a return will be very difficult. Right now I’m not thinking about it.
“I was fortunate to play there once and I consider myself privileged to have done that. The important thing is that I continue to do well at Napoli.”
