England’s World Cup hopes may be all but over following defeat to Uruguay but there’s one thing that is clear from the Group D match: Luis Suarez makes it look so easy it’s wrong.
All the pre-match build-up was centred around the Liverpool striker, who had already showed his formidable form in the Premier League this season. But not even England could prepare themselves for the striking master class Suarez put on in Sao Paolo.
England manager Roy Hodgson opted for the same line-up, a blend of youth and experience, but even they couldn’t stop Suarez scoring a clinical headed finish on 38 minutes, making a potentially tricky header look so easy, it’s wrong.
Despite a nicely worked Wayne Rooney goal in the second half to bring things level, Suarez still had more to offer as he rifled in a second to clinch the win for Uruguay, leaving England without a win heading into their final match against Costa Rica.
At this rate, we could be seeing Rooney and co. joining towel man on the beaches of Rio very soon…
