Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants an £18m summer deal for Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Northern Irishman is ready to splash the cash after securing the Reds’ long-awaited return to the Champions League, with a budget of around £60m said to be at his disposal.

Although Adam Lallana of Southampton and a centre-back are seen as priorities, he also wants to inject more attacking flair into the club’s ranks.

Sanchez has now emerged as a target, with the Chile international rumoured to be looking to leave Barca in search of more playing time.

Rodgers values the skilful forward at around £18m, and is hopeful that the Catalans’ predicted summer overhaul may make him available.

However a deal will have to wait until after the World Cup, with the 25-year-old fully focused on boosting his home nation’s hopes in Brazil.

Rodgers sees the 25-year-old as a top class addition to his ranks, and the sort of player he can now lure to Anfield after previously being unable to present top level European football to prospective signings.

Arsenal have also been linked with the versatile forward.
