Liverpool could be set to step up their interest in Swiss World Cup star Xherdan Shaqiri, after the player dropped a massive hint that his future may be away from Bayern Munich.

The stocky wide-man has been linked with a transfer in recent weeks, with the Reds and Italian giants Roma thought to be tracking him.

Although a top talent, the 22-year-old has struggled for first-team football since joining Bayern in 2012.

Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller have blocked his route into Pep Guardiola’s XI of late, which is s state of affairs that’s likely to worsen with Robert Lewandowski having been snapped up from Borussia Dortmund.

Despite this, the Bavarian giants’ sporting director Matthias Sammer recently came out to say that the youngster will not be sold due to his “future” role at the club.

However, Shaqiri took to Twitter earlier today with a thinly veiled statement:

Liverpool have reportedly contacted Shaqiri’s representatives over the course of the past few weeks, and could push ahead with a £15m-£20m swoop as they plot for life without Luis Suarez.

What do you think?

Liverpool must sign Shaqiri
