Rumoured Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri has played down speculation that he is close to leaving Bayern Munich to move to Anfield, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Swiss attacker has emerged as a serious candidate for a switch to Merseyside in recent days, with speculation suggesting that negotiations for a £15m deal are at an advanced stage.

Liverpool are believed to see the 22-year-old as a genuine alternative to number one target Adam Lallana, with Southampton demanding close to £30m for their captain – which is around £5m more than the Reds have offered on a take it or leave it basis.

The Switzerland international – who is set to represent his nation at the World Cup – was however dismissive about reports linking him with a switch, and when asked about his future and a possible transfer he said:

“Still at Bayern Munich.”

Shaqiri has previously spoken of a desire to leave the Bundesliga champions after struggling for first-team action.

The former Basel prodigy found himself behind Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in the pecking order last term, and was linked with a January move.
