Liverpool are growing increasingly interested in Red Bull Salzburg star Martin Hinteregger, according to reports from The Guardian.

The Austrian centre-back made his second ever international appearance last week against Uruguay, and it is understood that representatives from the Reds were in attendance to monitor his performance.

The 21-year-old marked Kop idol Luis Suarez during his 90 minutes outing, and was key in his side’s creditable 1-1 draw.

Tall, strong and composed, Hinteregger has been attracting attention from a number of top sides – including Arsenal – and is widely expected to leave his homeland once the season ends.

Liverpool are known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements, with their leaky backline having been breached on 35 occasions this term – the most of any top four side.

Brendan Rodgers may look to Hintergger if Daniel Agger leaves, with the vice-captain attracting attention from Barcelona.

Despite his young age, the silky defender has already made close to 100 outings for Red Bull Salzburg since his debut in 2010.

He only made his international bow last year, but is expected to be a mainstay in the Austrian set-up for the foreseeable future.
