Liverpool‘s Luis Suarez has always dreamt of playing for Barcelona, according to his former Ajax team-mate Gabri.
The Uruguayan striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Catalan heavyweights in recent weeks, with the club believed to view him as their major big money target for the coming transfer window.
Suarez himself has family in the city and has been urged by his father-in-law to push for the switch, despite serious interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool’s desires to keep their man.
The 27-year-old has made no indications as of yet that he wants to make the move – a far cry from the saga of summer 2013 – but Gabri, a native if the Barcelona region, says that his former on-field friend wants to join the giants:
“He’s a player that has always considered coming here one day, and if he did it would make me very happy. I think Barca would be making a great signing,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.
“He would adapt very quickly because of his hunger and he would be a very good fit for the club.
“He also has his wife’s family in Barcelona. He’s matured as a footballer. He’s a player with character and personality.”
Gabri also believes that Suarez would thrive alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro:
“If he were to come to Barcelona he would have what it takes to deal with the pressure of playing for a club like Barca. Luis Suarez is a goal scorer.”
