Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes that star striker Luis Suarez will still be at the club next season.

The Uruguayan, who is the Premier League’s second highest scorer this term, has been linked with a move away from Anfield for some time, with Bayern Munich believed to be highly interested.

Suarez recently claimed that he would happily discuss a potential move with the Bundesliga giants, but went on to say that it didn’t necessarily mean he wants to leave.

However, with Liverpool struggling to keep pace with England’s top clubs, a switch may be tempting for the 26-year-old.

But, Lucas feels that his team-mate is fully committed to the cause and will still be on Merseyside after the summer transfer window has closed:

“After the season Luis is having I’m sure there will be a lot of speculation, that is bound to happen,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“At the end of the day it will be his decision and the club’s decision.

"But what I know from Luis is that he’s happy, he’s comfortable and his confidence is high.

"Nobody is thinking about the summer or next season yet.”

Suarez penned a long-term contract with the Reds in August, meaning that if he is to move on he would, likely, cost in excess of £40m.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Bayern, have been mooted as potential destinations.
