Out-of-favour Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is wanted by Serie A giants AC Milan, who are prepared to splash out on £25.5m to sign him, according to Calciomercato.

What's the story?

The 25-year-old’s future has been a big talking point in the last few weeks due to his failure to cement a regular starting spot in Liverpool’s lineup.

Jurgen Klopp has made it clear - without saying the actual words - that Sturridge is not first choice when it comes to the team’s attacking force as Roberto Firmino is the chosen one to play alongside Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane.

Earlier this week it was reported that Sturridge is prepared to leave Liverpool when the transfer window reopens in January in order to get more minutes under his belt.

AC Milan are believed to be one club interested, with reports in Italy claiming that manager Vincenzo Montella has identified Sturridge as his top target to replace Carlos Bacca.

Would Liverpool miss him?

It would seem strange to say that a player of Sturridge’s calibre leaving the Reds would not be such a big blow, particularly given that he scored 25 Premier League goals in the 2013-14 season.

However, considering the way that Klopp sets out his teams, Sturridge is never going to fit into that system as he is the type of striker that lingers up top ready to pounce rather than drop back.

If the England international adapts his game, then he would be a crucial attacker in the side, but given that Firmino is more suited to what Klopp asks of his forward players, Sturridge is rarely going to get a look in.

Having someone of Sturridge’s quality on the bench is a huge advantage for Liverpool as you would back him to make an impact as a substitute if the game is not going to plan for the Reds.

The problem with that is, he is a determined footballer who wants to keep his international career alive and he is only likely to do that by getting more minutes under his belt.

Why is he always on the move?

At the age of 27, Sturridge has played for four different clubs, one of which was a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.

For a player of his talent, it is rather surprising that the striker has played for as many clubs as he has. He came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and sent three years at the North-West club before moving on to Chelsea.

After four years at Stamford Bridge, one of which was spent at Bolton, Sturridge made the switch back up north to Merseyside, where he has resided since 2013.

So, why has he not stuck it out at previous clubs? Well, at Chelsea he was rarely played in his favoured position up front, and while he does tend to drift out wide at Liverpool, it is clear that he would rather be the main man.

Perhaps the issue with Sturridge is that he struggles to adapt to what the manager is asking for because he is so sure of what works best for him and finds it difficult to budge.
